During the past few years, a significant amount of higher education institutions in Texas adopted electronic (text message) alert systems to communicate with their students if an emergency arises. Several universities adopted an alert system to keep their faculty, staff, and students informed of campus events. This approach, appropriately called "calendaring", sends a text message featuring reminders pertaining to athletic, social, and other events.
