During the past few years, a significant amount of higher education institutions in Texas adopted electronic (text message) alert systems to communicate with their students if an emergency arises. Several universities adopted an alert system to keep their faculty, staff, and students informed of campus events. This approach, appropriately called "calendaring", sends a text message featuring reminders pertaining to athletic, social, and other events.

Goal for Texas: 3 Million More College Degrees - Lumina Foundation Report

According to a recent report from the Lumina Foundation, Texas will need to produce almost 30,000 additional college graduates every year between now and 2025 (more than 3 million in all) to maintain a healthy middle class.


This report also provides readers with a breakdown of the percentage of people (per county) who have a two or four-year degree. <- Very useful!

It is almost here and the planning committee is wrapping up all the final details to ensure that you have a great conference. We will be closing online registration on Monday, September 27^th. An increasing number of undergraduate and graduate college students are using technology (i.e. - iPods, Facebook, iPhones, Twitter, etc.). College students' usage of these technologies can results in benefits and disadvantages for student affairs professionals.


One article by Erin Gemmill and Michael Peterson, focuses on these advantages and disadvantages. This article, "Technology Use Among College Students: Implications for Student Affairs Professionals" explores the stress level among college students (related to technology) and the student concerns that student affairs professionals may encounter as a result of their students' stress levels.
